TME Akumal, Mexico: Baby Sea Turtle Hatching!!! by Namyr TME Akumal, Mexico: Baby Sea Turtle Hatching!!! by Namyr
One of my favorite moments in Mexico!! Actually witnessed a loggerhead sea turtle nest hatch! The team protected the babies from any would be predators/poachers as they made their way down to the sea. All in all it took less than 10 minutes start to finish.

It was. We also saw two turtles come ashore and lay their eggs.

A cat and a few birds wanted in on the action, but the research team guarded every last turtle until they reached the water. :)

That's awesome! It must have felt great to insure that those young lives would have a chance to get to the sea!

It did. Especially since so many are killed by poachers or sold on the black market. Luckily the place where we were staying was patrolled by guards and the locals kept a very close eye on the beaches to guard the turtles.

That's great! It's sad that they have to be guarded like that to protect them from humans.
